INTRODUCTION

Hello!  My name is Bob Ring and I wanted to tell you what this blog is all about.
First, a little background:  Following a challenging 35-year aerospace engineering career, in “retirement” I’ve been having fun researching and writing about Arizona History, much of it with my brother Al Ring.  Then my interests broadened beyond history to include writing about my family, travel, books, restaurants, and more.  You can find the details of the books and newspaper columns that resulted, as well as a comprehensive bio, on my website: ringbrothershistory.com, under “Bob’s Projects.”
So then, with this blog, I’m looking for a forum to share my future writing in newspaper-column/magazine-article-sized bites on all the subjects I’ve already mentioned, plus an additional one, opinion writing.  I invite your comments and feedback, directly via the blog, or to my email at  ringbob1@aol.com.

P.S.  I choose subjects that I want to learn more about.

FAMILY7 - Our Favorite Photos of Scenic Arizona

HISTORY108 - Natural Wonders of Northern Arizona

Northern Arizona has always been a favorite place for Pat and me to visit.  There is so much spectacular scenery.  Natural wonders abound - with such a variety of colorful canyons, mountains, deserts, and majestic monuments - that share an early geologic history, but that later underwent different natural processes to make each of these natural wonders truly unique.    This blog will discuss the history of several of these natural wonders, with emphasis on what makes them so different from one another.   I have arbitrarily defined Northern Arizona as that part of Arizona that lies north of Interstate 40.   After an introduction to the region and its early geology, I will talk about the Grand Canyon; the San Francisco Volcanic Field, highlighting Sunset Volcano Crater; the San Francisco Peaks; Antelope Canyon; Monument Valley; the Painted Desert, highlighting the Petrified Forest; Canyon De Chelly; Window Rock; and finally, the fascinating special case o...

FAMILY6 - Views from our Tucson Backyard

For years I’ve lived in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills, atop a ridge, with great views to the west, spanning from the City of Tucson to the Catalina Mountains.  See below. Over the years, Pat and I have taken a lot of photographs in this general direction, including sunsets, clouds, occasional snow scenes and rainbows, visiting animals, and one-of-kind special opportunities.  The purpose of this blog is to share some our best photos. Sunsets Tucson is a fabulous place to see sunsets!  The colors are absolutely amazing and change dramatically from sunset to sunset.   I remember a period recently when we had four spectacular sunsets in a row.  Anyway, here is a selection of our sunset photos.
