HISTORY87 - Vancouver Island and the San Juan Islands
Pat and I have a trip scheduled in Fall 2024 - a small boat cruise to visit Vancouver Island, British Columbia, and islands off its eastern coast. We will also visit the nearby San Juan Islands in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. As usual, I wanted to research and document the history of our travel destination before making the trip. After a short introduction, I will start with a discussion of the travel region’s geography, geology, climate, and ecology. Then I will discuss the history of our destination, including indigenous people, European exploration, British settlement, Canadian federation, and growth to today.
